How to erase objects cleanly

Brushing technique

The brush tells the AI exactly what to remove, and everything outside it stays untouched. Cover the whole object with a small margin around it, including its shadow and any reflection in water or glass; a forgotten shadow is the most common reason a removal looks wrong. Do not worry about painting a little background, as that area is rebuilt anyway.

Zoom in on edges where the object meets something you want to keep, such as a stranger's shoulder next to your friend, and brush carefully there. For thin objects like poles or wires, follow their full length to the edge of the frame.

What removes easily, and what does not

Removals are most convincing where the AI can see what belongs behind the object: sky, grass, sand, water, plain walls and repeating patterns like brick or tiles. Small objects and people near the edges of the frame are the easiest.

Large objects in front of complex, unique detail are harder, because the hidden area has to be invented. A person standing in front of a statue's face or a crowded shop sign will be replaced with something plausible, not the real hidden detail. For big removals, work in several smaller passes and check each result.

Lighting also matters. Removals blend best when the light is even across the area; a strong shadow pattern, such as sun through leaves, is harder to continue perfectly, so check the rebuilt area at full size before you download.

Using it responsibly

Removing photobombers, clutter and stray cables is what the tool is for. Do not use it to change the meaning of a photo in a misleading way, for example by erasing damage from a property or a product you are selling, and do not use it to remove watermarks or credits from images that belong to someone else.

Every removal is a generation that costs 1 credit; if one fails, the credit is refunded automatically.

To change the colour of an object rather than remove it, use Object Recoloring. If a removal leaves the frame feeling tight, AI Expand can add space around the scene. For a background you want gone entirely, Background Removal or Background Replacement is faster than brushing it out.
